Martin Fitzmaurice has resigned from the BDO following his racial comments at the BDO British Internationals on Sunday, April 7th.

Though the BDO has accepted his resignation, the matter will be discussed fully at next week's BDO Board meeting  after which a statement will be made confirming any actions which the BDO will be taking in regard to Martin Fitzmaurice.

Dear Chair Person & Directors,

I would like to offer my sincere apologies for the unfortunate two gags that I told at last weekend's British Internationals on Sunday. No offence was intended, but I now realise that I should not have used material with racial references.

In my defence, I was not aware that the camera was streaming this break in proceedings or I certainly would not have used the material that has since been put on You Tube and highlighted on Facebook Twitter and several Forums.

I am proud to have been an integral part of the BDO for the last 27 years, and I have only ever given my full support to the Organisation, Players and Officials. As CEO of the IDPA I have always given 100 percent support to our wonderful darts players and officials.

However I now have to admit that I have crossed the line and caused offence to people while at the same time bringing the BDO into disrepute, albeit unintentionally.

Because of this, and with heavy heart, I am tendering my resignation as an MC for future BDO events including streamed events and regrettably the one I love most the Lakeside World Professional Darts Championships.

I can only repeat that I genuinely regret what has happened over the past few days,

Yours in The Sport of Darts,

Martin Fitzmaurice
