ANASTASIA DOBROMYSLOVA 2 v TRINA GULLIVER 0

Anastasia Dobromyslava of Russia was crowned queen of world darts after ending Trina Gulliver’s remarkable seven-year reign with a comprehensive 2-0 victory.

The 23-year-old former World Youth Master produced 94 and 90 checkouts, a maximum, 165 and 6 140s as she scaled new heights in world darts. With the Russian flag draped around her shoulders and fiercely gripping the impressive silver trophy only – so far - emblazoned with Trina Gulliver’s name, the new world champ declared: “I really cannot realise what has happened. Trina gave me a few chances and I took them. It really is an incredible feeling and a great experience. “We have played a few games before but never on such a big stage.”

Dobromyslava said that for the past couple of months she had been practising particularly hard for the championship. Gulliver was magnanimous in defeat: “She deserved it because she played really well. I was hoping for another title but it was not to be. “I felt confident before the final but I just needed a little bit of luck without taking away from Anastasia and how well she played tonight. But I will be back,” vowed the seven times world champ, jokingly trying to snatch back the trophy that she had made her own since 2001.

The defending champ opened the match with a psychological 180 and finished the leg in a two-dart 74, finished on double 16 but the Russian hit back levelling on 94 with an unusual finish of treble 20, double 17.
Dobromyslava led to the double in the third, missing two double tops to take the throwing advantage, Gulliver – spurred on by her mother and sisters - coolly exiting on double 20. The Russian missed bull for a 74 finish in the next but then Gulliver wired double 16, the younger player hitting single one and clinching double 12 and
break into a big smile. Throwing first in the deciding fifth leg the defending champ trailed as Dobromyslava threw for double 18 but hit the adjoining double four. Her next dart fell outside double 14 but there was no mistake with the third as the Russian clinched the set against the throw.

Despite a battling 100 and 140 from the defending champ in the opening leg of the second set the high-flying Russian despatched a show-stopping 90 checkout, finished on bull. In the next power-scoring, including her first 180 and a 140 steered her to a 13-dart finish against the throw for a 2-0 set lead. Requiring 34 for the title, the Russian hit single 17, single one and missed double eight and double four. Battling Gulliver missed bull for a match-saving 152, Dobromyslava clinching the title on double two.
