WALES ANNOUNCE THE INTERNATIONAL LINE-UP FOR 2008

Wales selectors have made seven changes to their International Squads for 2008, with six of those changes coming in the Men's Team.

Linda Jones of Oxfordshire is the only new member in the Women's Squad, replacing team Captain Linda Rogers-Pickett who announced her retirement from International Darts last week, after representing her Country on 60 occasions. Julie Gore is the women's new captain.
Of the six newcomers in the Men's 13, two are new caps, Justin Davies (Glamorgan) and Ian Jones (Gwynedd), while MartynFreeman (Avon), Mark Salmon (Glamorgan) with Gwent's County duo of Stephen Cake and Alan Walker are recalled to the line-up.

2008 LAKESIDE WORLD PROFESSIONAL DARTS CHAMPIONS
 
HOME BDO INTER-COUNTY DEBUTS FOR CLWYD ON 2ND FEBRUARY
 
Mark Webster and Anastasia Dobromyslova will create darts history on February 2nd when they play at home for Clwyd in the BDO Inter-County Championships as the newly crowned Lakeside World Professional Darts Champions.

Never before has a BDO County been represented by the two reigning World Champions, and Mark and Anastasia will be taking their trophies with them to celebrate with their team-mates.

Mark, the 24 year-old Men’s World Professional Darts Champion from Denbigh, is the third Welshman to win the most famous title in World Darts, but the very first from North Wales.

Russian darts sensation Anastasia (23), who now lives in Ellesmere Port, was crowned Women’s World Professional Darts Champion after ending the unbeaten seven year reign of England’s Trina Gulliver.

The double Lakeside World Champions will be competing in an all-Welsh Inter-County match against Gwynedd at Clwyd’s home venue:  Penyffordd Royal British Legion, Chester Road, Penyffordd, on Saturday, February 2nd.

ENGLAND ANNOUNCE THEIR NATIONS CUP SQUAD

The England squad for the 2008 Nations Cup has been announced and is as follows.

Martin Adams (Captain), Steve Farmer, Tony O'Shea, Darryl Fitton, Scott Waites, and John Walton.

The event will be played in Merthy Tydfil, Wales on 23 - 24 February.

Nr. 1 Seed Mark Webster opened at a tremendous pace and was quickly two sets up against Glenn Moody. He then lost his way and Moody won the third set 3-0. The third and fourth sets were all nerves and missed doubles but Webster shaded both sets for the match.

Scotland's Robert Thornton continued his success in high profile events when he took out 5th Seeded Tony O'Shea by 4 sets to 2. In addition he lined himself up for at least a share of the £3000 prize for the highest checkout when hit took out the third set with a 170 finish.

Superior finishing enabled defending champion and England Captain Martin Adams to a 4 sets to 0 win over Welsh Captain Martin Phillips. The score-line does not reflect the match because Phillips matched Adams for scoring power but his finishing let him down.

England's "Golden Girl" Trina Gulliver advanced to the Semi-Finals after an impressive performance. She was pushed hard by Julie Gore who claimed the second set. However, Julie could not match Trina in the final set.

Karin Krappen defeated her compatriot Rilana Erades by 2 sets to 1 in a match of high scores and deplorable finishing.

England's Scott Waites the Nr. 3 Seed, made a spectacular Lakeside debut when he outgunned Scotland's Mike Veitch by 3 sets to 1. Waites missed five match in the third set and needed five more in the fourth set before finally clinching the match.

Nr.4 Seed Martin Adams made an impressive start to his title defence with a comprehensive straight sets win over Phill Nixon. Nixon never found his consistency and gave Adams few problems.

Yet another Seed bit the dust as qualifier Andy Boulton made a winning Lakeside debut. He took out Nr. 10 Seed Martin Atkins after a dramatic 5th set tie-break.

The Bookmakers hot favourite and Nr. 2 Seed Gary Anderson suffered a sensational defeat at the hands of Dutch qualifier Fabian Roosenbrand. Gary produced his usual brand of high scoring but his finishing let him down badly. Fabian threw darts of the highest quality and never let the occasion or his opponent get to him.

Qualifier Stephanie Smee from Hampshire threw some excellent darts to make short work of Nr. 1 Seed Francis Hoenselaar in straight sets.

Nr 4 Seed Anastasia Dobromyslova advanced to the Semi-Final with a 2 sets to 0 win over England's Dee Bateman in a high quality match.

Middlesbrough qualifier Glenn Moody beat a disappointing Niels de Ruiter by 3 sets to 1 to advance to the second round.

Robert Thornton continued with the explosive form he showed at the Winmau World Masters when he brushed aside Nr. 12 Seed "John Boy" Walton by 3 sets to 0.

No shocks in the first session. All the seeds go safely through.

Nr. 5 Seed Tony O'Shea won a disappointing match against fellow England international Steve Farmer by 3 sets to 2. O'Shea had a 2 set lead and looked to be cruising. However, his accuracy deserted him and Farmer came back to level at 2 sets each. O'Shea retained his composure to snatch the win.

Nr. 9 Seed Darryl Fitton advanced to the 2nd round of the championships with a 3 - 1 victory over Davy Richardson in a high quality encounter.

Nr. 8 Seed Gary Robson defeated the 2002 World Champion Tony David in a match of mixed quality. Robson started well and threw high quality darts to take the first two sets. After that the match deteriorated.

Nr 1 Seed Mark Webster survived a severe case of "double trouble" before winning the opening match of the Championships. He took a two set lead before Ian Jones put up a spirited fight to pull a set back. In the final set all five legs went against the darts with Webster hitting the required D8 for victory.
