Kyle McKinstry defeated Canada’s David Cameron in a gruelling battle, as the second match of the evening went the full seven sets on the Lakeside stage. McKinstry had initially held a two-set advantage before a remarkable comeback from Cameron gave him a lead. But the Northern Irishman would find he feet once again at the perfect time, reeling off four straight legs to progress to the quarter-final stage.

‘The Village Man’ averaged 94 as he stormed the opening set, and a 75 checkout along with some further heavy scoring doubled his cushion. But ‘The Excalibur’ wasn’t down and out just yet. He would take seven of the next nine legs, upping his consistency in the treble bed to give him the lead.

A clinical sixth set would square things up for McKinstry, checkouts of 86, 78 and then tops, sending the match to a decider. McKinstry would recapture his form from earlier in the match as he took the final set 3-0, ending what has been a superb tournament for David Cameron. McKinstry will now take to the stage on Friday evening to contest his first ever Lakeside quarter-final.
