Day one of The BDO Youth Festival of Darts saw the Under 18's Challenge Tour 1 (Mixed) and the 18-25 Men's Singles take place, at the luxury Five Lakes Hotel and Resort in Colchester, Essex.
The Under 18's tournament saw 34 players from England, Northern Ireland, Belgium, Wales, Germany and the Netherlands take part in CT1.
The quarter-finals saw Lennon Cradock play Nathan Potter, Connor Pickett play Mitchell McCarthy, Leighton Bennett play George Lynch and Thomas Banks play Jamie Tilley.
Potter was the first through to the quarter-finals, beating Cradock 3-1, where he would face Pickett, who earlier beat McCarthy 3-2. Bennett soon followed suit, in a close match against Lynch, who missed match darts and narrowly lost 3-2 to the Youth World Champion. Tilley completed the semi-final line up with a 3-0 whitewash of Banks.
The semi-finals, Potter pushed Pickett all the way, with the West Midlands thrower winning 3-2 to reach the final, whilst Bennett won his semi-final 3-1 over Tilley.
The final saw Pickett take an early 2-0 lead before Bennett took the third. Pickett then moved to within one of winning before Bennett dug in to draw level at 3-3. A few missed doubles in the seventh and final leg by Bennett saw Pickett take the initiative and seal a 4-3 win over Bennett.
In the 18-25 Men's event, it was Belgium's Brian Raman who emerged victorious. He beat Luke Simmons 3-2 in the quarter-finals before meeting Essex-based player Rhys Hayden, winning 4-1. Hayden had earlier taken a 3-2 win over Surrey's Connor Scutt to claim his place in the semi-finals.
Raman faced Jack Main in the final, following Main's quarter and semi finals wins over Viani Van Den Bergh and Joe Russell respectively, with both matches going the distance. Main soon found himself 2-0 down before he broke the Raman throw in the third. Consistent throwing from Raman saw him see out the next two legs 4-1 to take the 2019 Men's 18-25 title.
