Scott Waites booked his place in the final of the 2019 BDO World Professional Darts Championship as he defeated Michael Unterbuchner in a one-sided semi-final match-up.
‘Scotty-2-Hotty’ took six of the seven sets as he romped to victory over the German, who was also a semi-finalist in 2018. He lost to Mark McGeeney on that occasion but will return in twelve months’ time as he looks to go one step further and claim the coveted BDO World Championship trophy as well as that £100,000 cheque.
Waites on the other hand, will go into the final flowing with confidence after his simple victory over the German. He took the opening set of the match against the darts as the packed-out Lakeside Country Club atmosphere appeared to get to the less experienced German.
The Yorkshireman would race into a 5-0 advantage as Unterbuchner failed to get out of first gear, ‘T’Rex’ only pushing him all the way of one of those five sets. Waites has bemoaned his lack of accuracy on double 18 all tournament but was much more accurate on the outer ring in his semi-final clash, 34% representing a good standard for the former two-time champion.
Unterbuchner would avoid the whitewash as he took the sixth set of the match with a 95 checkout. But after not getting into gear earlier in the contest, the match as all but over for the two-time semi-finalist.
There would be five breaks of throw in the seventh and final set as Waites sealed his place in Sunday’s final. Double 18 coming to the rescue once again, as an 85 average was enough to him emphatically become the first man to reach the 2019 BDO World Championship final.
