DESPITE entries being lower than anticipated, there was no lack of talent at the 2nd West Fries Intratuin Open.

In the ladies’ event, Aileen de Graaf, Kirsty Hutchinson, Deta Hedman and Laura Turner all made it into the semi-final stages.

Hutchinson, in pursuit of her first BDO ranked title, faced number one seed de Graaf. Missed doubles proved costly in the seventh and deciding leg for de Graaf as Hutchinson stepped in to win 3-4.

Hedman faced Turner in a repeat line-up of last week’s Isle of Man Open final. Hedman struggled to get going and Turner moved into the final with a 4-0 win over the England Captain.

The final saw Hutchinson storm into a three-leg lead and Turner failed to recover. Hutchinson’s consistency and accuracy on the doubles saw the Durham thrower take her first BDO ranked tournament with a 5-2 win over Turner.

The Men’s event also saw a new face on the winner’s podium, as Martijn Kleermaker blitzed the competition to take his first BDO title on home soil.

Kleermaker faced World Number nine Dave Parletti in the first semi-final, winning in straight sets and denying the Surrey ace a place in his first final since the Romanian International Open.

Kleermaker faced Wales’ Nick Kenny, who reached the final with a clinical 2-0 straight sets win over Richard Huizinga, averaging over 105 in the process.

Powerful scoring and solid finishing from Kleermaker in the final proved too much for the Welsh International, and Kleermaker took the title three sets to one.
