MARTIJN KLEERMAKER was a man on a mission this weekend as he took the second singles title in West Fries; The West Fries Winmau Masters, alongside England’s Deta Hedman, who sealed her first win of 2019.
Sunday’s semi-final line up in the Ladies event saw Hedman face West Fries Open Champion Kirsty Hutchinson, and Prins face fellow Dutchwoman Femke Herms.
Hedman, having only dropped three legs all tournament, continued her good form and progressed through to the final with a 4-1 win over Hutchinson. Prins, playing her first BDO ranked tournament since the Dutch Open, had a tough battle against Herms, winning 4-3 to seal a final spot.
Hedman is no stranger to winning titles but hadn’t managed to cross the line since winning Malta back in November. Consistent scoring and accurate finishing saw a determined Hedman take the final 5-1 against number four seed Prins.
Kleermaker’s victory came at the expense of 2018 West Fries Open Champion Wesley Harms. Winning in straight sets, Kleermaker took his second ever BDO title, and second title of the weekend in emphatic style against the world number two.
Kleermaker had beaten Scottish International Gary Stone 2-0 in the semi-final, who also looks set to make headway in the BDO following his strong performance at last week’s Isle of Man Festival of Darts.
Harms had a close match against Belgium’s Geert De Vos in the semi-finals, coming through two sets to one winner.
Kleemaker’s successful weekend will see him break into the BDO top 20.
