NEW ZEALANDS'S Darren Herewini has made further headway on the New Zealand regional rolling and seasonal tables, as he takes the Canterbury Open, moving ahead of 2019 Lakeside qualifier Mark McGrath.
Herewini was in top form as he took his second BDO ranked title of 2019, beating Jonathan Silcock 6-4 in the final with an 87.30 average. Herewini’s place in the final came at the expense of Tony Carmichael, winning the match 5-1, whilst Silcock had a narrow 5-4 win over Steve Doak.
Silcock had earlier knocked out McGrath 4-3 in the quarterfinals.
The ladies event saw Tina Osborne back to winning ways as she beat Jo Steed 5-4 in the final with a 66.22 average. Osborne faced Judy Fenton in the semi-final, beating her fellow New Zealander 4-3, whilst steed edged out Sunshine State Classic Champion Wendy Harper by 4 legs to 3.
