GLEN Durrant, Scott Waites, Michael Unterbuchner and Mark McGeeney were all in top form as they progressed into the last 16 of the Winmau World Masters. 

Duzza registered a 99.62 average in his 3-1 win over 2001 World Champion John Walton, whilst Waites fired home a 103.42 average to hold off Belgium’s Roger Janssen 3-0, dropping just one leg in the process. Germany’s Unterbuchner was put under pressure by England’s John Burgess, but held on to take a 3-1 victory, despite Burgess registering the second ton-plus average of the day. McGeeney proved too strong in the final match of the day for qualifier Keith Geraghty, taking a 3-1 victory and a 93.02 average. 

They will be joined by Gary Robson, whose 3-1 win over Wouter Vaes sees him safely through to the last 16 and 2015 World Professional Champion Scott Mitchell, who defeated Ireland’s Shane McGuirk 3-1. Mitchell will face Dutch International, Willem Mandigers in the next round following his 3-1 victory over Ricardo Pietreczko. 

Other seeds through to the last 16 are Wayne Warren, who despatched of England’s Terry Stubbs 3-0, Dave Parletti, who faced tough opposition in World Professional qualifier Krzysztof Kciuk, winning 3-1 with an 87.02 average, Richard Veenstra and Jim Williams. Veenstra continued his form from last week’s British Open and British Classic to see off Poland’s Sebastian Steyer in straight sets, whilst Williams had to dig deep to come back from 2 sets down to beat England International Nigel Heydon 3-2.

Not everything went the seeds way; Scott Baker was the first seed to fall as Scotland’s Gary Stone took a confident 3-1 victory over ‘The Mod’. Belgium’s Mario Vandenbogaerd produced a 90+ average to defeat the number nine seed, Ross Montgomery. Qualifiers David Copley and Eddie Mordica earned themselves a second round clash as they beat Dutch players Chris Landman and Wesley Harms respectively. Mordica took out an inspired 114 check out in the deciding set to knock out the current World Number four. Adam Smith-Neale completes the last 16 line-up as he defeated England’s Daniel Day 3-0 with a 92.97 average.
