The weekend saw four players crowned champions at the Intercontinental Hotel, Bucharest, as the Romanian Darts Federation hosted the ninth Romanian International Darts Open (RIDO) and the sixth Romanian Classic Darts Open (RCDO).
Poland’s Karolina Podgórska, fresh from her recent Lakeside debut, claimed the RCDO title with a 5-3 win over Middlesex’s Maggie Sutton, who had reached the final with a strong semi-final performance against number one seed, Deta Hedman. Podgórska has an outstanding record at the Romanian Festival of Darts, having won the RIDO in 2017 and 2018, but couldn’t reproduce her form a second time as she missed out on a third successive tournament victory to ‘The Heart of Darts’, Deta Hedman in the semi-finals.
Dutch International de Graaf took her first RIDO title with a collected 5-2 win over England’s Deta Hedman. De Graaf beat fellow Dutch player Priscilla Steenbergen 4-0 in the second semi-final.
In the Men’s RCDO tournament, Greece’s John Michael claimed his second BDO tournament win of the season with a narrow 6-5 win over Derk Telenekes. Telnekes secured his final spot by knocking out number one seed, Gary Robson, whilst Michael defeated the Netherlands’ Jeffrey Sparidaans.
The RIDO saw Robson go one step further, as he knocked out Lincolnshire’s Simon Stainton 5-3 in the semi-finals. He faced Surrey’s Dave Parletti, who beat number 7 Wouter Vaes seed by the same scoreline in their semi-final clash. Parletti and Robson provided an exciting nip-and-tuck final and with the pair at five legs all, advantage of throw proved vital and Parletti secured his first title of the season with 6-5 win over Robson.
