England’s John Scott won both the Estonian Open and Master’s this weekend, marking his first BDO victories of 2019.
Kicking off with the Open on Saturday Scott, who entered the tournament as the number 2 seed, beat Sweden’s Tobias Lundblad 5-4 in the final. Scott’s semi-final match was against 2019 Lakeside debutant, Denmark’s Brian Lokken, beating the Dane 5-1, whilst Lundblad won his semi-final clash 5-2 over Holland’s Tim van de Poel.
The Ladies Estonian Open saw Finland’s Kaisu Rekinen take her first title of the 2018/2019 season with a confident 4-0 win over fellow Finnish player Marika Juhola. Juhola won through to her first BDO ranked final with a narrow 4-3 win over 2018 Lithuania Open Champion Helene Sundelin, whilst Rekinen beat Finnish International Kirsi Viinikainen 4-1.
Scott’s dominance continued into Sunday’s Estonian Masters as he took his second title of the weekend with another 5-4 win, this time over Finland’s Paavo Myller. 2018 Champion Myller beat Norfolk’s Craig Venman 5-2 in the semi-finals in his quest to retain the title, whilst eventual winner Scott beat England’s Sam Head by the same 5-2 scoreline.
Sweden’s Helene Sundelin took the Ladies Estonian Masters, claiming a 4-1 win over open semi-finalist, Kirsi Viinikainen 4-1. Viinikainen’s semi-final was a repeat of Saturday’s Open against Reikinen, with Viinikainen this time edging out her opponent to take the match 4-2. Sundelin’s semi-final was against number one seed Andreea Brad, beating the Romanian thrower in straight legs 4-0 to progress into the final.
