KAPI MANA'S Darren Herewini and Southland's Desi Mercer took the latest NZDC BDO ranked tournament this weekend by winning the Ted Clements Memorial Open singles titles in Levin.
It was Mark McGrath who ended up of the wrong end of a 6-5 result against Herewini in the final to be denied the title. McGrath overcame challenges from Wayne Carey, AJ TeKira and Alan King Memorial Runner-Up Mike Day, before reaching his first final of the 2019/2020 season.
Herewini registered wins over John Kelly, Steve Gooch and Jonathon Silcock before taking his second tournament win of the season following success in October at the Alan King Memorial.
Desi Mercer booked her place at the 2020 One80 L-style World Masters by taking the title over Taylor-Marsh Kahaki 5-3. Mercer beat Polly Luke 4-3 in the semi-finals, who had earlier despatched of former BDO World Championships qualifier Tina Osborne. Kahaki had a tough semi against Maryanne Teinaki, edging her out 4-3 to make the final.
