The 2018 World Professional Champions dominated the proceedings this weekend in Antwerp, at the Belgium Open and Belgium Masters, as Lisa Ashton claims a double victory and Glen Durrant shares the honours with Justin van Tergouw.
Durrant took Saturday’s Belgium Open, winning 2 sets to 1 in the final over local favourite and 2017 Belguim Master, Andy Baetens. Duzza overcame a strong challenge from Welsh International Wayne Warren in his semi-final, winning 2-1, whilst Baetens claimed his place in the final with a 2-1 win over unranked Rupert Frauendienst, who himself won through a close battle against Andy Hamilton 5-4 in the quarter-finals. In the Women’s competition, Fallon Sherrock was denied her tenth title win this season by the four-times Women’s World Champion, Lisa Ashton. Ashton took the final 4-2, following an impressive 5-1 victory over number 1 seed Lorraine Winstanley in the semi-finals. Sherrock faced ‘The Racing Angel’, Sharon Prins in her semi-final, in a close encounter which saw the England International edge out her opponent 5-4.
Sunday’s Belgium Masters saw Durrant secure his place in his second final of the weekend with a convincing 2-0 win over Brian Dawes in the semis. He faced the 2018 World Youth Champion, Justin van Tergouw in the final, who emerged victorious over fellow countryman and World Number Nine, Willem Mandigers 2-1 in their semi-final clash. Van Tergouw took the title 2-1 over Durrant to claim his first senior BDO-ranked title of 2018.
