Michael Unterbuchner, Nick Kenny and Fallon Sherrock all take titles in Switzerland this weekend
Michael Unterbuchner, following his outstanding WDT campaign, took the Swiss Open title in straight sets over Catalunya’s Marti Santamaria. Despite some great darts from Santamaria, including a 147 checkout, Unterbuchner’s power scoring proved too much, and he couldn’t find a way to break the German’s throw. Unterbuchner had earlier beaten Roger Janssen in his semi-final, whilst Santamaria saw off a strong challenge from the number 2 seed, James Hurrell.
Unterbuchner was denied the double by Welsh international, Nick Kenny, who took the Helvetia Open 5-4. Kenny had a narrow victory over Swiss Open runner-up Santamaria in the quarters, before beating Andrew Beeton in the semis. Unterbuchner’s quarter-final match saw him face Wayne Warren, winning 4-1 and home-favourite, Switzerland’s Thomas Junghans in the semi-final.
Fallon Sherrock appears unstoppable, winning her fourth and fifth consecutive titles, repeating her successes in Bruges and doing the double again. Sherrock beat Laura Turner in both the Swiss and Helvetia semi-finals, before facing Deta Hedman in the final both days. On Saturday, Sherrock took the Swiss Open 2 sets to 1, with a 24.57 average and won Sunday’s Helvetia Open in straight legs with a 28.63, compared to Hedman’s 28.13. Hedman faced Tricia Wright and Paula Jacklin in her two semi-finals, registering an impressive 30.83 average against Wright in the Swiss Open.
