BDO World Trophy Day Two Head to Head

Play starts at 7pm

Wesley Harms (7) 6 vs 3 Wayne Warren

Another cracking opening match sees Wesley ‘Sparky’ Harms defeat Welsh International Wayne Warren 6-3. Despite a well-timed 116 finish from Warren in the 7th leg, Harms remained cool under pressure and sails through to the next round where he will face Peter Machin.

Fallon Sherrock (7) 4 vs 2 Rhian Griffiths

Fallon Sherrock, fresh of the back of double victories in Belgium, starts her 2018 WDT campaign with a convincing win over Welsh International Rhian Griffiths. Both Sherrock and Griffiths missed chances to break in the early legs, until Sherrock managed to turn a 2-1 deficit into a 4-2 victory with one break of throw in the fifth leg.

Dean Reynolds (15) 1 vs 6 Michael Unterbuchner

Germany’s Michael Unterbuchner continued the consistent from he showed back in January’s World Championships to knock out the number 15 seed Dean Reynolds. Unterbuchner took an early lead, checking out a 110 finish with Deano sat on 24 in the second leg and never looked back. Reynolds held his throw in the fourth, but Unterbuchner took the last three legs for a 6-1 win.

Trina Gulliver MBE (8) 3 vs 4 Anca Zijlstra

The second ladies match of the night saw Trina Gulliver MBE face Netherland’s Anca Zijlstra. Despite a slow start from both, they were very evenly matched throughout and every leg went with throw. Gulliver had an excellent chance to break in the third leg, but nine missed darts at double allowed The Phoenix to swoop in and hold her throw, resulting in a narrow 4-3 victory in Zijlstra’s favour.

Mark McGeeney (2) 6 vs 4 Chris Landman

An epic first round tie between current World Number 1 Mark McGeeney and the Netherland’s Chris Landman. McGeeney steamed into a comfortable 4-0 lead, maintaining a 100+ average throughout, only for Landman to find another gear and take the next four legs, all in 15 darts, with finishes of 72, 143, 66 and 81. With the match level at 4-4, McGeeney held his throw in the ninth leg in 14 darts, and took the tenth to win 6-4 with a 98.37 average.

Conan Whitehead (13) 1 vs 6 William Borland (q)

An outstanding debut from qualifier William Borland sees him romp to victory with an impressive 6-1 win over the number 13 seed, Conan Whitehead. The 21-year-old showed no fear on the big stage, and at 1-1, took the next five consecutive legs to win 6-1 with a 91.86 average.

Lorraine Winstanley (1) 4 vs 1 Paula Jacklin

Number One seed Lorraine Winstanley keeps her championship hopes alive with a 4-1 win over Lincolnshire Ladies Captain, Paula Jacklin. Despite a lull in the third leg, where both Jacklin and Winstanley missed vital darts at doubles, the current World Masters winner won through with a 76.77 average and will face Anca Ziljstra in the last 8.

Jim Williams (4) 6 vs 3 Derk Telnekes

The number 4 seed, Jim Williams, put in a clinical performance against rising Dutch star Derk Telnekes. With five out of the first six legs going against the throw, a steady 15 dart leg from Williams in the fifth, including a 102 checkout, was a key point in the match, which Williams went on to win 6-3. Williams will face the impressive debutant, William Borland in the next round.
