Mikuru Suzuki will compete for the BDO Women’s World Championship trophy in just her first year competing in the tournament, after a stunning victory over England’s Maria O’Brien.
O’Brien averaged 86 in the previous round against Fallon Sherrock but couldn’t reproduce her excellent form against the Japanese sensation. After winning the bull in the practice room, O’Brien would have been confident of taking the opening set, but Suzuki flew out of the blocks. With her opponent struggling to get any sort of momentum flowing, Suzuki stuck. A magnificent 106 checkout putting her one set to the good.
The second set would come in more simple fashion for ‘The Miracle’. Despite ‘OB’ finding her form on the outer ring, Suzuki would fire in her first 180 of the contest as well several ton plus scores to blow away her more experienced adversary.
Suzuki will learn her final fate later this evening when Lorraine Winstanley faces Anastasia Dobromyslova in the second women’s semi-final.
